Alberto Vargas
I am due to pay homage to Alberto Vargas, a pioneer of erotic art. Everybody knows Vargas, though nobody ever bought Esquire or Playboy because of his paintings (as everybody knows, one bought - especially Playboy - because of the articles). Vargas was Peruvian and moved to the United States when he was twenty, in 1916. He worked first for Esquire magazine, then for Playboy, both of which featured in their time the Vargas Girls.
