Taylor Swift
Update, see below ...
... wait, there's even more
I watch a tv show called Gruen on ABC; it’s about advertising & marketing … mostly making fun of silly ads and at the same time providing interesting insights into that parallel universe.
In one episode they talked about a woman by the name of Taylor Swift, a singer/song writer who's really got her marketing act together. She was not on my radar but one of the panelists commented that she is ubiquitous with girls, in fact ... his two daughters had adopted her, she was akin a third daughter in his family.
So, I thought, how interesting. And off I went to YouTube to check her out. I randomly clicked one of her videos … oh boy, was I in for a shock: Bad Blood must be one of the worst, one of the most horrific bits of entertainment I ever endured (I didn’t watch the whole thing). It is a display of gratuitous violence (I put a link to it down below).
I don’t suffer such rubbish lightly. I made that point before about a HBO series Westworld (my blog 799) … I just cannot comprehend that people like to be entertained with such violence. Ah well, that’s America for you, a country where 30,000+ people die each year as they fall victim to American's fascination with guns & violence.
Now, from a technical viewpoint the video is slick & professional, and I trust the music is good too. Like I said, I didn’t finish watching it, so what would I know ... but I have reason to believe it; I persevered and clicked on a couple more videos (after I searched for “Taylor Swift live”) ...
... what a
delight. What a wonderful young woman.
Taylor, dear, if you
ever come to Sydney again, look me up. We'd talk about what spirit to imbue
your entertainment with. Without wanting to be presumptuous, we would talk about spirituality
and en.light.en.ment, and what it is you want your communications to embody ... especially when
communicating with youth, who look up to you. Don't get me
wrong, I get that you're hurt and there is bad blood. But why the violence?
(I'm sure some smart-alec will say now, I got it all wrong: Bad
Blood is feministic, empowerment of women etc. O. Dear.) But, you know, one last word: Ever the optimist, I reckon the video - its aspect of violence - is an expression of the video director and/or producer, not Ms Swift ... Ooops, no, I just learned shooting the video is one of her favourite memories :-(
But wait, there's more: We watched the Netflix documentary on TS, great docu; and - I say it again - what a wonderful young woman. Anyway, this morning I read a story from the Stoics and as I did, I was thinking of her; then I blogged it: Shine On, You Crazy Diamond
... wait, there's even more:
My spiritual mentor is Jiddu Krishnamurti, I write about K a lot. A recent quote that was sent out by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America goes:
"I am a human being, not a label. I am a human being who is looking for truth, who wants to live peacefully, justly, with right behaviour."
Isn't that where we all are at ... or at least what we all should strive for? When I read that quote I thought right away about this blog, this little story. Krishnamurti says, the world needs a revolution. A revolution that can only begin in the human mind. Let's revolt, people ... let's do it.
Once upon a time
A few mistakes ago
I was in your sights
You got me alone
You found me
You found me
You found me
I guess you didn't care
And I guess I liked that
And when I fell hard
You took a step back
Without me
Without me
Without me
And he's long gone
When he's next to me
And I realize
The blame is on me
'Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I'd never been
'Til you put me down, oh
I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So, shame on me now
Flew me to places I'd never been
Now I'm lyin' on the cold hard ground
Oh, oh
Trouble, trouble, trouble
Oh, oh
Trouble, trouble, trouble
No apologies
He'll never see you cry
Pretends he doesn't know
That he's the reason why
You're drowning
You're drowning
You're drowning
And I heard you moved on
From whispers on the street
A new notch in your belt
Is all I'll ever be
And now I see
Now I see
Now I see
He was long gone
When he met me
And I realize
The joke is on me, hey
I knew you were trouble when you walked in (oh)
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I'd never been
'Til you put me down, oh
I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I'd never been, yeah
Now I'm lyin' on the cold hard ground
Oh, oh (yeah)
Trouble, trouble, trouble
Oh, oh
Trouble, trouble, trouble
And the saddest fear
Comes creepin' in
That you never loved me
Or her
Or anyone
Or anything
Yeah
I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I'd never been (never been)
'Til you put me down, oh
I knew you were trouble when you walked in (knew it right there)
So shame on me now (knew it right there)
Flew me to places I'd never been
(Ooh) now I'm lyin' on the cold hard ground
Oh, oh
Trouble, trouble, trouble (oh)
Oh, oh
Trouble, trouble, trouble
I knew you were trouble when you walked in
Trouble, trouble, trouble
I knew you were trouble when you walked in
Trouble, trouble, trouble
